FERGIE HAILS GUTS

The manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has praised his team for putting up a gutsy performance in the recently played Premier League match against Sunderland. That match was played on Saturday at the Stadium of Light.

That victory gave Manchester United a lead of 18 points over Manchester City for a short period of time. City faced Newcastle United the same day and defeated them by 4-0 to bring down United’s lead to 15 points again.

By defeating Sunderland, the Red Devils secured their 7th Premier League win on the trot. This victory took them closer to the title. Now, they need to win only 4 out of their remaining 8 matches to win the title.

In the match against Sunderland, United took the lead in the 27th minute with the help of an own goal from Titus Bramble. Robin Van Persie tried to claim that goal, but, no way, he was going to get that. The ball had certainly took a deflection off Bramble and it was undoubtedly an own goal.

A couple of United players suffered injuries in the match against the Black Cats. Rafael da Silva discovered a groin injury in the 33rd minute and went off the ground. He was replaced by Jonny Evans. Also, the goalie David De Gea collided with Nemanja Vidic and was looking in a lot of pain. He didn’t leave the ground though and continued playing after getting some treatment.

Talking about the overall performance of his team against Sunderland, Ferguson said, “We battled it out. In the first half, we were all over Sunderland. But, in the second half, they came out fighting and created some chances.”

“A couple of our players got injured during the match, but, we showed courage and didn’t lose the focus. That was a gutsy performance by the boys.”
