David de Gea concluded a brilliant campaign by winning

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea concluded a brilliant campaign by winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

He had been one of the most consistent players in the Premier League. Despite a season in which the club could only finish in the top four, De Gea was nominated for the individual awards at the end of the campaign. He failed to overhaul the likes of Harry Kane and Eden Hazard for these awards, but he was much more successful in the club’s in-house awards ceremony. After he was named as the club’s Player of the Year, his rival for the number one spot – Andres Lindegaard – came out with a congratulatory message.

The future of Lindegaard at United had become almost non-existent. The player did not feature for much of the campaign under Louis van Gaal, as the club signed Victor Valdes on a free transfer back in January. Even though there is a lot of speculation surrounding the future ofDe Gea, it is widely anticipated that Lindegaard will leave the club in the summer. In the past two seasons, the Danish goalkeeper has featured in only three matches over all competitions. This poor record is unlikely to see his contract renewed and even the player is unlikely to be interested in renewal.

“Big congrats to @D_DeGea for winning players player of the year – in my eyes the most prestigious award. Very well deserved my friend!” said Lindegaard on his Twitter account. Even the prospect of the Spaniard leaving the club in the upcoming summer transfer window is unlikely to persuade Lindegaard to stay at Old Trafford. After a fantastic campaign De Gea, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. This will see him return to his hometown and it is something that he is thought to be extremely keen on.
