Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has accepted that he needs to trim their squad in order to keep the players happy. After the arrivals of two more players in the summer, United have an extremely large squad with a number of players reportedly having no future to the club. The likes of Anderson and Nani, who came just a few years before the club’s Champions League victory in 2008, rarely feature for the club nowadays and are likely on the way out. Van Gaal, though, said a few weeks ago that it would be unfair to sell the players without having a look at them.
He now says that the pre-season has given him a good idea of some of the players. He will be informing them about his decision win comes to retaining them at the club. Van Gaal says that the information should be conveyed as soon as possible since it would allow the players enough time to engineer a move elsewhere. The transfer window closes in the first week of September. Failure to find a new club before that will see the players stay at United at least for the next six months, which would not be ideal for the careers.
Anderson has been at United since 2007, but he spent the second half of last season on loan at Fiorentina. “I shall make judgments after the tour. I have let all the players play so I know now more than I did before. But in football you have to judge. Always you have to give a chance to a player to make a transfer when you see that his perspective is not so high to play. You have to say it in advance. When you say it on 31 August it’s too late. I shall say to the players what I think after the tour,” Van Gaal said.
