The Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has said that he cannot wait to wear the Scotland jersey at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The 28-year-old Scotland captain recently returned from a long-term irritable bowel condition that had kept him out of the first team action for more than a year. It was a major doubt that the player would return to first-team action, but he recently returned to playing ways by appearing as a substitute in a match against Galatasaray in the Champions League. He then went on to make his first start for Manchester United in the match against Newcastle United in the league cup.
After the match, he has said that he is extremely delighted to play football again. He is only expected to be named in the Scotland squad that will take on Belgium and Wales in the next World Cup qualifying matches. Even though he is not going to be put back straight into the pressure of premiership football, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Darren Fletcher has enough quality to be able to ease back into action as the season progresses. Fletcher has said that playing for Scotland once again will rest on the decision taken by the manager Craig Levein.
“Obviously it’s the manager’s decision to pick me and he’ll be looking at how much game time I’ve had for United. But I’m desperate to be involved. I was desperate to be involved in the Serbia and Macedonia games as well but it was just a little bit too early for me. I came up for the Serbia clash but United had a reserve game on Tuesday at the same time as the Macedonia match. I felt it would be better for me to get it under my belt,” said Darren Fletcher.
